Tour on Your Bike With Your BabyAnd Baby Makes it Tandem . . .Innovation is a wonderful thing. Learning by word of mouth or finding new things in your favorite bicycle magazine or on the Internet makes getting great cycling gear for babies and young children so easy. Going on a bike ride with your child can be incredibly enjoyable and a great experience for all. Make riding to your destination fun by packing portable baby activity gear so you can both relax and enjoy time off of the trail. Where the Trails Have No NameWhat baby jogger strollers have done for jogging parents bike trailers have done for parents who bike. Please make sure your child meets the height and weight requirements for safe use. The trailers are more agile, more weatherproof, and more popular than ever. With trails all over the nation, in our cities, our parks and other nature attractions, making the most of what the great outdoors has to offer is better enjoyed from a bike. Most trailers can easily be converted into a stroller, so if you want to take a hike, your two feet can replace your two-wheeler. Also remember to take along the essentials while you’re out in the woods. Don’t ride so far off the beaten path that an emergency with your child would mean difficulty to get immediate medical attention. If the weather is hot and you’re leaving your car parked while you take your ride, make sure baby's seat remains cool with a baby car seat cover. Remember to pack an extra set of baby clothes to ensure your baby is comfortable no matter what the weather. Water, snacks, diapers and wipes, plastic bags (for diapers and trash), and baby’s favorite toys will make life easier for all. Take a Spare! Before you hit the trails this spring, make sure your bike is in good repair by taking it to your local bike shop for a tune up. Or if you are a do-it-yourselfer, make sure you have hit all the major parts of the bike for maintenance. Brakes, chain, seat, tires, and suspension should all be checked for wear and tear. Check the pressure on the bike trailer’s tires, scan the fabric for holes, and test the restraining harness before strapping your child in. Finally, along with supplies for baby, bring along a basic bicycle repair kit. It should contain a bike tube for a flat tire or a tire sealant for tubeless tires. An air pump, first aid kit, and bike tools should complete the kit. If you’re brave enough to venture away from the trail, a cell phone or GPS may not be a bad idea. You don’t want to get lost in nature, just share in the beauty of nature with your little one!
